Toure, Nat Asamoah bounce back

For
three consecutive matches, Kotoko’s top marksmen, the Ivorian,
Ahmed Toure and Nathaniel Asamoah played without scoring.
The
two strikers who had scored in the first four league matches of
the season, were however not lucky to have hit the back of the
net in the succeeding games.
That not surprisingly opened the gates for primitive minded
spiritualists, who benefited from the undeserved opportunities
offered them by some radio stations to make all manner of
superstitious claims about the two strikers – why they were not
scoring in addition to why their goal famine was far from over.
However, in less than 30 minutes of Sunday’s Kotoko-Wassaman
United duel, Ahmed Toure and Nathaniel Asamoah made nonsense of
all the juju stories against them.
They in fact silenced their critics by scoring two goals each in
28 minutes to seal victory for the fabulous side. It was not as
if Nathaniel and Toure were just lucky to have scored. They
played well and teamed up excellently with their colleagues to
get the goals and most importantly the win.
Speaking in post match interviews with Kotoko Express, the two
players explained that their inability to score in previous
matches was nothing strange. Nathaniel Asamoah, who was first to
speak observed that most defenders in the Premiership have
employed effective strategies to counter the strikers’ efforts
of attackers even though they have been working hard.
“I
have seen that the top marksmen are targeted. We are prevented
from scoring although we have been doing our best. We still have
to do more to outwit them because they will play to their
ability to stop us from scoring but we also have to be creative
and get the goals” said Nathaniel.
Ahmed Toure agreed with his team mate but insisted that goal
poachers do not always score. “We do not score all the time. I
cannot score in every match” he said disclosing however, that he
was happy to have scored on Sunday. Whereas Ahmed Toure has six
goals, Nathaniel Asamoah has five with the league’s top scorer,
Emmanuel Baffoe of Edubiase FC having eight goals.
