Deriving a huge inspiration from the
Biblical David, Asante Kotoko’s David Ofei says beyond the sky
is his limit as he strives to help Asante Kotoko win
Ghana’s league.
David Ofei is one of the youngsters making
great impressions in the ongoing league and his efforts have not
escaped the lenses of journalists and spectators of
Ghana’s league.
Ofei is a member of the Kotoko first team
and believes he has been fighting well to keep his place in the
team, wishing he will be able to up his performance as the
league progresses. He gets past opponents easily, He is very
skilful, got speed and has a great weapon of passing accurately
while dispossessing opponents of the ball is one of his
trademarks.
“I call myself one of the lucky players in
Ghana because I play for Asante Kotoko and not that only, I get
the chance to play. Playing alone is not enough for me but when
I play my part for the team to win, then I thank God and relish
in the victory. In Kotoko now, what you can only see is the team
work and the absence of about five regulars can never be felt
because every player in Kotoko including those not playing
regularly are as good as the regulars”, said Ofei.
Asked what has changed in the team that
makes opponents retreat in their presence, Ofei said Kotoko has
not had it easy so far as opponents are very tough on them. He
said it has been like that in all matches but the zeal not to
disappoint and the will to win the league always help Kotoko to
break the front of their opponents.
“In the match against Lions for example,
they came well prepared and pushed us from the start but it was
beautiful as we gradually overturned and kept the pressure on
them. The two goals we scored and later our fluent play were
beautiful for even those of us on the field”.
David however disagreed with the assertion
that Kotoko refuse to score more goals and only play to
entertain, explaining that it is very important to secure the
three points in matches which includes defending your goals
well. He said the players have been told by the coach to enjoy
the game they play and it boils down to scoring and defending
well thus when goals are scored, the strategy might sometimes
change. He said apart from winning to sustain the fight to win
the league, it is also important to entertain the fans adding
that the players appreciate what Maxwell Konadu teaches them and
what they do on the pitch.
“It might be difficult to understand us
sometimes but at the end of the day, the most important factor
is winning and snatching the three points. Mind you we are not
in competition with ourselves but with fifteen other clubs so we
should always have a plan and so far, it has been perfect. We
hope it continues”, Ofei said.
He finally heaped praises on the supporters
of Asante Kotoko saying that the support has been the biggest
pillar for the team. Ofei said the players are aware of the
enormous pressure and expectations from the millions of the
supporters but they draw inspiration from the same supporters to
outwit their opponents.
