Players of Kotoko have been urged by the team’s Scotland based
Psychologist, Patrick Ofori, to see the recent call up of right
back, Yaw Frimpong into the senior national team, the Black
Stars, for the Sudan and Nigeria matches as an opportunity to
take advantage of, for their personal
advancement.
Speaking to Kotoko Express through Skype
from his Scotland base, Patrick alerted that the call up of Yaw
Frimpong to the Black Stars meant there was a spotlight on
Kotoko and so everyone was being watched.
“What the players will therefore have to do
is to put up their best performance from now on because no one
knows who is watching who in the team. They have to eschew
selfish play and direct their energies to the good of the club
and out of that, their talents would be spotted for the national
teams”.
“The good news is that we even have sixteen
year olds in the team and so our players could be called into
any of the national teams of any of the age categories”.
Patrick Ofori, who is putting finishing
touches to his PHD in Scotland went to London to watch the
Ghana-Nigeria friendly and took the chance to visit Yaw Frimpong
at the hotel where the Black
Stars was lodged.
Though it was a private meeting, he
reminded Yaw of the huge opportunity that he has been offered by
his call up into the national team.
“I pointed out to Yaw that he was there
first on his own merit and that he also represented the Kotoko
brand, his family and his own image”.
“What he does with that opportunity was
going to impact on future call ups of Kotoko players and
therefore there was the need for him to comport himself and also
put up a good performance when called to play,” he added.
He says he cited the example of how Samuel
Inkoom took full advantage of his call ups into the Black Stars
when he was still with Kotoko.
“Now Inkoom is making it big on the
international stage all because of our advice for him to take
full advantage of the national team call ups”.
Though Yaw Frimpong did not play in any of
the matches, reports have it that his performance at training
and comportment has put him in a good stead for future call ups.
