Kotoko-Hearts are not enemies – Dr. Sarpong

Executive Chairman Dr. K. K. Sarpong has
admonished supporters of Kotoko
and Hearts to continue to live in peace
and says the two clubs are not
enemies
Dr. Sarpong said there is absolutely no need for followers of
the two clubs to fight and die as a result particularly during
their matches. Kotoko and Hearts are billed to play a two-leg
charity match being organised by a non-governmental
organisation, known as Come to My Aid.
Whereas the first game will be at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium
on Sunday, the return leg a week later is scheduled for the
Ohene Djan Sports Stadium. Speaking at the inauguration of a
three-member committee to resolve the problems that have hit the
leadership of the Ashanti Regional Circles Council, Dr. K. K.
Sarpong observed that Kotoko and Hearts could use their massive
support base for something profitable.
He pointed out that Kotoko would forever be interested in peace
and thus charged Kotoko followers in that regard to organise
themselves well in order to throw their weight behind the team.
“I keep on telling you that with your membership if you organise
yourselves well, let us say we have 2 million members and let us
say each member contributes GH˘10 that gives you, GH˘20 million.
We can start a bank the next day” stated Dr. Sarpong.
He bemoaned instances where the club’s supporters’ groups have
failed to properly organise themselves for greater benefit. Dr.
Sarpong warned that “saboteurs of Kotoko’s forward march” would
not be tolerated as he advised the Circles to use their
numerical strength positively.
“We do not seem to know how to use the numbers we have. We only
want to use the organisation to destroy ourselves. We are not
looking at the positive aspect of the organisation. The Circles
or the supporters’ union can be a powerful tool against which
some commercial ventures can be developed. We are only looking
at how to fight; how to quarrel and destroy Kotoko. That will be
unacceptable so far as I remain as the Executive Chairman” he
stated.
