Asante Kotoko’s management has congratulated Coaches Kwasi
Appiah and Maxwell Konadu, both former players of the club for
leading the national U-23 team, the Black Meteors to win gold in
the men’s football event at the All African Games which ended in
Mozambique on Saturday.
The
former Kotoko players were on the bench when the Meteors drew
1-1 against their South African opponents after 120 minutes of
grueling action.
The
Ghana team however went on to win 4-2 on penalties clinching
gold at that level for the first time, having won bronze in the
2003 edition.
Speaking to Kotoko Express after the final game, Kotoko’s Public
and Supporters Relations Manager, Listowell Yesu Bukarson said
the achievements of the two ex-players go to show what anybody
who has passed through the Kotoko system can do in his lifetime.
“As
part of the larger Ghanaian football fraternity, we are happy
with their achievement. And from the Kotoko point of view this
goes to confirm what anybody who passed through Kumasi Asante
Kotoko is made of”.
“We
are gladdened by their feat and we congratulate them” he said.
The
Kotoko spokesman further stated that decision by management to
pick the Meteors deputy coach Maxwell Konadu as the senior coach
of Kotoko was indeed the right decision given what he has been
able to achieve with Kwasi Appiah.
