Players of Kumasi Asante Kotoko are
scheduled to resume training sessions at the Adako Jachie
Wednesday to start preparation for this weekend’s impending trip
to the Eastern European nation, Serbia.
As the team returns to the training field,
some of the questions and issues that have engaged the minds of
most supporters and observers alike have centred mainly on the
team for the 10-day tour as well as how their scheduled will be
during the all important European tour.
Discussions as to who will make or will not
be on the list of players for the tour started late last within
the supporters’ rank and as expected some Kotoko fans have been
heard on radio phone-in programmes making their own selection
based on the performance and commitment of the players while
others also premise on their selection purely on preferences and
admiration for those players.
These fans however are in total agreement
that the tour of Serbia is helpful as it would get the team in
the right form ahead of the 2011/2012 season.
“I expect a series of training sessions and
trial matches but I do not think it will be the type that will
overstretch the players. That will defeat the purpose of the
organising the tour” said National Circles Council spokesman,
Nana Kwame Dankwa who along with Circle 117 member Veronica Afia
are part of the 35-man contingent that will leave Accra this
weekend to begin the tour.
Assistant Coach Maxwell Konadu in a brief
interview on the resumption of their training sessions vis-à-vis
the tour of Serbia has told Kotoko Express that their schedule
would be a “combination of the pre-season and in-season”
exercise.
According to the Kotoko assistant coach, the
team’s training programme would be aimed at conditioning and
preparing the players for the upcoming season.
“I am not sure but league is
expected to start late September or early October. We will train
and play matches and ahead of the new season, we will give some
key players in the team rest while we incorporate the few new
players into the team”said Maxwell Konadu.
