Enterprising striker Nafiu
Idrissu is hoping to make a great impact and help the Porcupine
Warriors go places in the forthcoming 2011/12 football season.
In a chat
with Kotoko Express over the weekend, the soft-spoken striker
said he has put his unimpressive show with Kotoko last season
behind and is now focusing on his training in order to hit top
form and get more playing time next season.
“Things did not go well for me last season
but I want to assure all Kotoko supporters that they will see
the Nafiu Idrissu that they used to know during my playing days
with Feyenoord and Asec” he assured.
Nafiu Idrissu joined Kotoko in the second
round of the Glo Premier League last season after playing for
some clubs outside the country like Asec Mimosas of Cote
d’Ivoire, Aldehafra FC, Sargrah FC and Dibba FC all of Dubai. He
joined Kotoko together with players like Awal Mohammed, Yaw
Frimpong, Michael Akuffu, Ahmed Toure, Fatawu Mohammed,
Nathaniel Asamoah, Bukari Alhassan, Apraku Frempong and Gershon
Akuffu.
Nafiu was
quite impressive in the few matches that he featured both in the
league and MTN FA Cup competition. And if his performance in the
off season trial matches especially in Serbia where he scored
four goals in Kotoko’s 5-0 triumph over F.K Zagruda is anything
to go by, then the striker will surely be a delight to watch
next season.
Commenting
on his current form the well built striker said “I found it
difficult to adjust myself into the Kotoko system when I arrived
from Dubai. Besides I had an injury which kept me out of most
matches.
“But I am
glad that with time I am picking up my form. I will continue to
work hard and justify the investment management has made in me
and also prove my critics wrong” he noted.
Nafiu
commended his colleague striker Ahmed Toure for being voted the
Most Valuable Player in both the GFA/PLB and MTN FA Cup. He
reaffirmed his desire to play for the Black Stars in the
Gabon/Equatorial Guinea 2012 African Cup of Nations.
He finally
urged the supporters to remain united and throw their weight
behind the team all the time adding that the battle ahead next
season will definitely require collective effort.
