Management yet to decide on
Tanzanian invitation

The management of Asante Kotoko is yet to
decide as to whether or not the club will be able to
honour an invitation
from organisers of a four-club tournament scheduled to take
place in the second week of July this year in the East African
nation.
Administrative and acting Public Affairs
Manager of the club, Benjamin Nti gave this information when
speaking to Kotoko Express in an interview over the weekend.
“No firm decision had been taken on the
invitation,” he said indicating that the management meeting
scheduled to discuss the subject had been fixed for a latter
date. Against the fact that the leadership of the club is also
planning a tour of Serbian later this year including other
friendly matches on the local scene, Kotoko supporters who have
already heard news about the Tanzania invitation have in their
contributions to radio sports programmes been wondering whether
or not management will sanction the trip.
Comments monitored on radio therefore
suggest that many of fans and even local football commentators
would love the idea of Kumasi Asante Kotoko embarking on the
trip to Tanzania as it could give the players more exposure
while preparing them for bigger competitions ahead.
However, the decision to or not to accept
the invitation will depend on important considerations other
than mere feelings.
If the Kotoko management gives the green
light to organisers of the four-club tourney to include the
club, it will surely add up to the comprehensive pre-season
arrangements they are drawing to get the Porcupines in the right
shape before the start of the 2011/2012 football season.
Again, it is important to note that this
will not be the first time Asante Kotoko will be participating
in a mini tournament in the East African nation. They were there
in January 2006 for a similar competition then under the
technical tutelage of Coach E. K. Afranie.
