Kotoko midfielder Albert Bruce has joined
his colleagues at the Adarko Jachie
training ground weeks after his dream of being victorious with
the national U-20 side, the Black Satellites crashed too early
in the recently organised African U-20 tournament in South
Africa.
Albert Bruce was a member of the Satellites
team that failed not only to defend the Africa title the country
won in Rwanda in 2009 but also qualify for the World
competition.
Hours after reporting for training earlier
this week, he told Kotoko Express in an interview that he has
put the Satellites’ failure behind him to concentrate on his
performance at Kotoko.
“That is what every serious player must do
after a tournament” said the hard working footballer.
“If we had done better or won the
competition, the feeling would have been different. I would have
been happier. Life would have gone on all the same. That did not
happen. Life must still go on” said Albert Bruce.
Asked what he believes might have
contributed to the under performance of the Black Satellites in
South Africa, he argued that things just did not go the way they
wanted.
“Every team that goes to a competition plans
to do its best. We planned as such. However, things took a
completely different turn. I have put everything behind me. I
want to concentrate on my performance here. That is what I have
to do; I am doing that! I am focusing on my performance. I have
to train well and maintain a regular place in the team,” said
Bruce.
He added that his immediate target is a
starting place in Coach Bogdan Korak’s team. Since joining
Kotoko at the beginning of the season, Albert Bruce, a former
player of Power FC and Berekum Arsenal has shuttled between the
camps, Asante Kotoko and that of the Black Satellites.
Out of the 26 Glo Premier League games
Kotoko has played this season, Albert Bruce has been selected
for 13 of which he started 6.
Bruce has as well been featured in 2 of
Kotoko’s 3 MTN FA Cup matches of which he came on as a
substitute. He scored the vital winning goal in the
Kotoko-Deportivo FC round of 32 match.
The
player told this paper that he is back to continue his hard
work. “Currently we all appreciate the need for us to do our
best. Everybody is working hard and I am also going to work
hard. We have to maintain our second position. We also have to
win the FA Cup competition” he stated.
