Officials of English Premiership side Sunderland FC will soon
arrive in the country at the invitation of Asante Kotoko to firm
up an agreement of cooperation between Sunderland and Asante
Kotoko.
Among the areas of cooperation is the much-anticipated friendly
match between Kotoko and the English side.
Kwame Baah-Nuakoh who is Kotoko’s FA Rep. and International
Relations Manager disclosed this to the Kotoko Express on
arrival from the United Kingdom on Sunday evening.
“Our discussions with officials of Sunderland last Friday went
very well. In the end we agreed to put together a document which
will outline all the areas of cooperation between the two
parties after which there will be a signing ceremony to unveil
the details.” Kwame stated.
Baah-Nuakoh who was part of the Kotoko delegation to the U.K
which was led by Executive Chairman Dr. K.K Sarpong
also said officials of Sunderland will soon touchdown in
Ghana for further discussions and familiarize
themselves with the Kotoko set-up.
Briefing Kotoko Express about last Friday’s tour of both the
Academy of Light which houses the club’s training facility and
administration as well as the Stadium of Light where Sunderland
plays their home matches, Kwame noted that it was a big eye
opener for the delegation which he believes will impact
positively on Kotoko.
According to the Kotoko Management member, the delegation was
very impressed with the keen interest shown by officials of
Sunderland in the whole idea of mutual cooperation between the
two sides.
“We were met on arrival at Sunderland by their legal director
who led us to the Chairman of Sunderland Nail Quinn (he is on
record to have made the transition from player to chairman in
the shortest period of time) who spent the whole morning with us
and also led the tour of the Academy of Light”.
“Mr. Quinn said he personally wanted to be part of the
discussion because of the importance Sunderland attaches to this
new relationship. We were also impressed with Coach Steve Bruce
who did not hide his affection for Ghanaian players.” He noted.
Earlier on Monday Kwame and team psychology Patrick Ofori
visited the camp of the Black Stars who were in London to play
England in last Tuesday’s high profile international friendly at
Wembley.
“We checked on Kotoko striker Nathaniel Asamoah in the Black
Stars camp during training on the eve of the match and also on
the morning of the match. Patrick
spoke to him about how to take full advantage of such
occasions”.
