Kotoko’s FA and International Relations
Manager, Kwame Baah-Nuakoh has observed that the mental strength
of players of Kumasi Asante Kotoko have seen terrific
improvement and that a testament of that was seen when they
battled New Edubease United ferociously in Wednesday’s week 20
Glo Premier League match at Bekwai.
He
says the players firmly concentrated on the game at the time the
odds were up against them explaining that in the face of some of
the referee’s funny decisions towards the end of the game, the
team maintained their focus.
Kwame Baah-Nuakoh observed that the players’
rigorous training would pay off with time, and that it is
necessary for Kotoko fans to give Coach Bogdan Korak and his
players maximum support.
The well-read University lecturer continued
that the team is going through momentous transformation which
would yield positive results soon.
Kwame described the team’s performance as
satisfactory adding that their composure, concentration and work
rate should be commended.
“In
terms of general output, it was okay” he stated saying however
that he was not too impressed with the performance exhibited by
the trusted FIFA Referee Samuel Gyasi.
“I was however not too impressed with the
performance of the referee towards the end of the game. He
allowed too many infringements against us but was not prepared
to give us the same infringements when they were committed
against us. In the face of all that, our boys were mentally
strong. I think it is a testimony to the strong mentality of the
players now,” he said.
Commenting on Ibrahim Moro’s long shot,
which beat Kotoko goalie Isaac Amoako, the FA and International
Relations Manager, argued that much as he would have wished
Kotoko left Bekwai without a goal in its basket, Isaac Amoako
should not be blamed because as he put it, “Footballers once in
a while make mistakes”.
Kwame Baah-Nuakoh appealed to Kotoko
supporters and the media to encourage the Kotoko goalkeeper.
“He’s still our best goalkeeper. We need to
forgive him and also encourage him to do better next time. We do
not have to do anything that will destroy his confidence. We
should not forget also that at the CHAN tournament he was not
active,” he pointed out.
On a day that both Prince Anokye and Awal
Mohammed in defence seemed
off-colour, Kwame could as well not overlook the two players’
shaky form.
“Anokye struggled to deal with the strikers that came at him but
he picked up well in the closing stages. As for Awal, unlike his
other colleagues who benefited from the series of trial matches,
he was inactive at the CHAN tournament. It will take a little
time to come back to form, perhaps in the next game” said the
management member who ended by praising the hard work of
substitute midfielders Albert Bruce and Afranie Yeboah.
