Having sat
through the full duration of the New Edubease F.C-Kotoko
gruelling match, and seen some beautiful goals scored in the
match, board member and Acting Executive Chairman, Honourable
Emmanuel Owusu Ansah says he was impressed with the performance
of the players.
He also says
unlike in the past matches where one could clearly see the
players gasping fro breath half way through a match, “the story
was different today. They played well and were well conditioned
for the match”.
“For once in many
matches, I could see the players running and tackling without
much panting”.
This assessment
of the performance of the players by the Honourable MP, did not
come as a surprise and despite his passionate support for the
fantabulous support for the team he dearly like, he has not
spared his criticism of them when they deserve to be criticized.
With the general
assessment done, he took Kotoko Express through a departmental
assessment of the team.
“Amoako remains
our trusted goalkeeper but I guess that he has to take his time
to work on his composure during matches. His wrong judgement
that resulted in the equalizer must be pardoned, but I guess he
needs to do his calculations right the next time”.
“For my money, I
would say our defenders really played well and coordinated also
well. There was total understanding between them and their
timely clearances were good for the team”.
“Despite their
impressive performance, there is more room for improvement and
so they should set their targets much higher and stronger”.
To him, the
department that needs a little more work is the midfield. Much
as he admits that they played well, it was clear there is work
to be done on the gap that seems to exist between the defence
and attack.
“The gap in there
was too wide and so the defenders were most often had to balloon
the balls and this made it difficult for an effective play for
the players”.
“The coach will
have to spend a little more time to look at that problem”.
The attackers
scored a goal that was later cancelled with an equalizer, but he
believes that with a little patience on their part and a better
communication whilst on the pitch, the goal story of the match
would have been different.
“They were
wasteful. I believe with a little patience, they should be
scoring more goals between them”.
With all these
assessment done with, Kotoko Express pushed the Honourable MP
further for his choice of the best Kotoko player for the match.
“It would be a
difficult task to select a man of the match on Kotoko’s side
because the match saw the team playing so impressively as a unit
with a common purpose”.
“I will not
hazard that, but can only say that despite the goal they
conceded, the defence was solid much in the same way that the
attackers performed”.
Concluding, he
had a few words of advice for the fans who seem to be losing
hope when the team losses a match.
“Much as I do not
begrudge anyone for holding their opinion on matches, I just
would want to advise them to be patient with the team so that
the team gets all the needed support and peace of mind to
perform”.
