The
lackluster support being given by supporters of Asante Kotoko FC
have come under sever scrutiny by the C.E.O of Ashgold FC, Mr.
Kudjo Fianoo.
He has
also tasked fans of the club to research on the root word
‘support’ and access themselves if indeed they are being a true
support for the club they “profess to love and support”.
At a
supporters’ reorganization and fund raising rally of Zone 8 of
Kotoko supporters of Ashanti Region, Mr. Fianoo, who had led a
high-powered delegation of his club to the function minced no
words when he took the supporter groups of the club on for
abandoning their core duty in the scheme of things of the club.
“When we
were growing up as children in our villages, we knew of only one
football club and that was Asante Kotoko. This was because it
was only Kotoko that was making all the news headlines in Ghana
at that time and all these was being achieved because of the
huge and functional support base of the club that is scattered
across the country”.
“It came
to a time that Kotoko supporters were so powerful that when any
club was preparing against Kotoko, the opponents officials spent
more time in psyching their players up to be able to contain the
huge crowd that followed the club that they usually forgot about
the main match”.
“This was
the more reason why Kotoko won many matches at during those
times. The fans did all the intimidation and the players only go
onto the pitches to finish off the kill”.
According
to him, those are the core values and duties of the club. “Your
duty is to be there for the team through thick and thin,” he
told the crowd that had been held spell bound by his high
knowledge of the history of the club.
He
entreated them to know their roles as people on whose shoulders
the clubs run and any slow pace attitude on their part, “meant
the clubs were also going to be slow”.
Espousing
on the motto of Kotoko, “kum apem a, apem beba”, he told the
gathering that the founders of the club and selectors of the
slogan did not choose that important slogan for nothing.
“The
slogan epitomizes the unfailing support and reliability of
assistance from the fans. You should therefore be guided by the
fact that it is also a call for action duty when all seem not to
be going right”.
“The fans
are the greatest assets of the club and you can only be
recognized and appreciated when you are seen to be working and
not waiting to be appreciated before you get to work for the
club. Kotoko needs you all on board and the time to do that is
now”.
Drawing
from his sense of humor, he spoke on how the absence of the fans
at Kotoko matches was affecting not only Kotoko but all others
clubs in Ghana.
“At
Ashgold and I know for a fact that same pertains in all other
clubs, budgets used to be prepared with prime attention given to
expected gate proceeds from our matches against Kotoko”.
“With the
proceeds from our matches against Kotoko, we could pay all our
outstanding bills of the players and even comfortably sort out
some of our creditors. But know, it will be a big mistake for
one to do that because instead of the supporters being true kum
apem a, apem beba, they have reduced their support to when you
kill thousand, a hundred will not even come”.
He
commended the organizers of the rally for the program and
recommended to all supporter groups of both Ashgold and Kotoko
to adopt the strategy to properly champion the course of their
clubs.
Concluding, he thanked the management of Kotoko for their
wonderful show of brotherly concern and commitment to the peace
agreement brokered between Kotoko and Ashgold and expressed joy
that “officials of both clubs could walk to watch matches of one
another club without fear of attack and intimidation”.
“I am
happy that this peace has finally been achieved at our time and
I know with this, our patron and overlord, Otumfuo can have
sound sleep knowing very well that his children would not engage
in any shameful violence”.
