Though
Kotoko’s Isaac Amoako and defender, Awal Mohamed have flatly
denied that their splendid performance in last Sunday’s victory
over Aduana FC was to pay Coach Herbert Addo for not fielding
them in the CHAN debacle, their performance no doubt had a
serious motivator.
In
separate interviews with Kotoko Express, Amoako and Awal say
they did what they did in relation to their performance for the
team success and the fans.
“It is no
secret that our fans were getting disappointed with the way our
performance was fluctuating and so we came into this match with
the aim of regaining the confidence of our fans with our
performance,” Amoako said.
That
aside, Amoako also says getting into his strides has been his
target for a long time and that he was happy that he got into
his elements in an important match such as the one they played
on Sunday.
“Though
God says vengeance is his, there was the need for us as Kotoko
to put Aduana at their proper place in Ghana football. We also
had to ensure that we had a better head-to-head so that in case
it got to the wire, we would be able to scale over competitors
for a top spot”.
“This
means that whilst we seek to maintain our supremacy over all the
clubs we beat in the first round, we shall also be seeking for a
better head-to-head over the once we drew and lost to”.
Amoako
thanked all who in diverse ways have supported the club in their
quest to succeed.
“At this
venture, it is worth mentioning that Dr. K.K. Sarpong and his
management and Board have been excellent. The Executive Chairman
is indeed our number one motivator and inspirer, and we are
grateful for his efforts”.
On
his part, Awal Mohamed, who had a wonderful game and succeed in
partnership with his colleagues to prevent Aduana from scoring a
goal, came clear on whether they played with Herbert Addo in
mind.
“The fact
that we were members of the team that went to Sudan means we
share in the joy and pain of the team. It was purely a matter of
we not getting the needed luck to make a better impact at CHAN”.
On the
Kotoko- Aduana match, Awal says they came into the match with a
determination to win and so did all was needed for that victory
days before the match.
“We
trained well and also prayed for luck and more goals and that is
exactly what we did get in the match. God is near and listens to
our prayers only if we call on him with a true heart”.
Whilst he
remained thankful to management for rolling out mouth-watering
incentive packages in their way, he was also appreciative of the
massive support they enjoyed at the Baba Yara Stadium last
Sunday.
“Last
Sunday’s crowd at the stadium was a sight to behold. The fans
turned up in their numbers and it was a joy to ride on their
support wave to victory. This is what we need in our subsequent
matches”.
On the
Hearts-Kotoko duel in Accra next week, Awal refused to be drawn
into the talk shop over the match but preferred to let their
performance do the talking for them.
“I only
want the fans to continue to pray for us for luck and goals, and
leave the performance to us as we do not intend to disappoint
them,” he said.
