In the
face of a raging media campaign against management of Fabulous
Asante Kotoko over some decisions they have recently taken,
administrative manager, Benjamin Nti, says the Dr. K.K. Sarpong
administration is well focused and steady in their determination
to take the club to greater heights.
He also
says that their administration is so much involved in doing the
rights things to attract investors and corporate partners to the
club that they will not be distracted by people who would like
to foment trouble and confusion for their selfish interests and
ambitions.
In a
telephone interview on Saturday evening after he had spent the
whole day explaining policies and decisions of the club to
supporters through the various electronic media, Ben Nti said he
decided to embark on that exercise for special reasons.
“I have
been mandated by the Acting Executive chairman, Honorable
Emmanuel Owusu, to take on an additional temporary
responsibility of media officer and so I had to be out there on
the field to first disabuse the minds of fans over the bad press
that some people with ill-intentions against the club had
started generating”.
“Secondly, fans needed to be informed of the current situation
of the club so that they would know and appreciate the good work
that Dr. Sarpong and his team have been doing to put the club on
a sound footing on and off the pitch for the good of the club”.
Touching
further, he described as an “unfortunate and misplaced”, the
accusation that he schemed and shoved off Jarvis Peprah from his
position as the Public Affairs Manager of the club.
“Much as
I do not want to explain further other than the reasons given by
the letter as the reason for the termination of his appointment,
I would like to state clearly that I am a loyal person to my
jobs, friends and family, as such Jarvis whom I see and respect
as an elder brother knows what I am worth in my relationship
with him”.
“The
reason for the termination of his appointment though was
avoidable, could best be described as unfortunate. However, I
will not hesitate to take on anyone who would like to rope me in
with mischief”.
“In
connection with this same issue, I will like to state that the
agitation and argument by some people that Dr. K.K. Sarpong does
not have the powers to fire anyone who goes contrary to his
demands on his managers is only laughable and speaks of the
ignorance of the protagonists to basic management principles”.
He
explained that as the Executive Chairman, basic management says
that he wields administrative powers as well as that of the
board and so he runs the show as much as possible.
“That is
the more reason why it would be a display of naivety for anyone
to think that way”.
“As far
as the principle of the current administration of the club is
concerned, the Executive Chairman has not usurped anyone’s
powers. What does those leveling that weak and cheap accusation
on the Executive Chairman make of the caliber of people in the
Board?”
“As
successful businessmen, woman, professionals and a diplomat,
none of them would in any way stand aloof if what the accusers
were saying was to be true”
The
rubble rousing and unfounded allegations he said, would not
succeed because according to him, if it was meant to distract
their attention, then they have failed.
“The
truth of the matter is that, we have a club to run and a job to
do as assigned by the Kind, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. We do not have
time to waste on unnecessary things when we could profitably use
that period to look for sponsors for the club,” he said.
As the
way forward, he advised that fans looked up to the Board and
Management to continue to champion the good course of the club
and also be mindful of people who will like to bring the team
down to satisfy their selfish egos.
