Coach Bogdan
Korak and his technical assistants will have another fine
opportunity on Saturday to assess how well the Kotoko team is
taking shape as they welcome the national U-23 side, the Black
Meteors to the Baba Yara Sports
Stadium for a
trial match.
The Kotoko coach
and his technical lieutenants have been working strenuously to
get the team in the right form before the resumption of the Glo
Premier League next
month.
Saturday’s game
is therefore expected to offer the Serbian trainer a fair
insight into the progress of work so far and what he must do to
ensure that the team improves and plays excellently.
Kotoko earlier
this week thrashed second division side, Danbort FC 3-0 in the
MTN FA Cup round of 64 matches.
Three days later, they
defeated another division two side, FC Porto at the Adarko
Jarchie training grounds in Kumasi.
Just like Asante
Kotoko, the Black Meteors have been in camp for weeks and
handlers of the team say they are in no mood to surrender to the
Porcupine Warriors in tomorrow’s fixture.
It is not clear
whether Albert Bruce who returned to the Black Satellites camp
late Sunday evening will
be back in Kumasi for Saturday’s friendly.
Checks with
managers of the junior national team however indicated that
Nathaniel Asamoah, Kotoko’s top marksman will don the colors of
the national team and not that of Asante Kotoko.
That development
no matter how one looks at it, does not worry Coach Bogdan
Korak. The 51-year-old Serbian trainer and his assistants
contend that in spite of Nathaniel Asamoah’s absence, they have
what it takes to overpower the young talented Meteors side.
Assistant coach,
Prince Acheampong maintains that the Black Meteors must come
well prepared since Kotoko would neither underrate them nor
spare them in the potentially thrilling encounter.
Kotoko’s
preparedness for their opponents cannot be questioned but in the
same vein the Black Meteors led by former Ashantigold technical
handler, David Duncan also look poised to stop the Porcupines in
the tracks.
Only the pitch
can tell whether the Black Meteors can shine in
Kumasi or whether indeed the Porcupines
will run over them to continue their seemingly fine form lately.
