Asante Kotoko’s striker, Nathaniel Asamoah has explained why he did not celebrate the way he normally does after scoring two spectacular goals in last Sundays 16th week Glo Premier League match against his former side, All Stars at the Wa Park.

Nathaniel Asamoah, aged 20 years, grabbed the goals for the Porcupine Warriors in the 25th and 85th minutes respectively to give them a very bright start in the second round of the competition.

The win also marked Coach Bogdan Koraks second in six matches. Nathaniel Asamoahs beautiful finishing came as little surprise to many knowing his quality and exactly what he possess but his decision not to be jubilant after scoring even as his colleagues, supporters and management members of the club legitimately went ecstatic, left a section of the spectators at the Park wondering throughout the game and even afterwards why he did that.

Speaking to Kotoko Express in a post match interview, the Kotoko striker said his non-celebrative attitude was to show respect to the wonderful supporters of Wa All Stars and also appreciate what his club and the entire Wa community did for him during his stay in the Upper West Region.

“Wildly jubilating against Wa All Stars would have come as a sign of disrespect. I needed to show them respect. I had to appreciate their goodness to me. That is why I didnt celebrate” he told this paper.

Not that the decent-minded and well-behaved home fans would have reacted violently but given the fact that, right from the start of the game, these fans had booed and jeered him any time he got hold of the ball, the response from the All Stars fans would probably have been more embarrassing for the young attacker.

Nathaniel, who scored six goals for the Wa based team before joining Kotoko however made it clear that as a professional, he needed to do his work.

I am a professional so I did my work as expected but then the respect too was important” said Asamoah.

He expressed his joy for scoring in his first competitive game besides increasing his tally on the goal king chat from six to eight. Though naturally unhappy with the result of the game, some of the Wa All Stars fans interviewed by this paper, in reaction to the strikers decision not to jubilate after scoring, commended him for displaying a modicum of respect to them.
