Though Kotoko did
‘discipline’ the loud-mouthed Division Two braggarts, Danbort
F.C 3-0, Serbian trainers, Bogdan Korak and his compatriot,
Slobodan Gijnic, say their joy is not particularly with the
score line, but with the fact that their training techniques are
working.
In a post match
interview with Kotoko Express, the pair, speaking through their
interpreter, Popovic Aryee, disclosed that their emphasis at
training has always been to bring the conditioning of the
players up to acceptable level.
“…And it was
clear from the match that my players now have a superior
conditioning which makes it possible to run around the pitch
chasing the ball and also closing down on opponents”.
“Playing against
lower division clubs have always been difficult for premiership
sides so I asked my boys to go on to the pitch to enjoy
themselves by playing simple football with good passing…”
“This they did to
perfection and I am happy that we also won because there would
have been no point of interest if we had played all the
beautiful football and had no goal to show for it”.
The team played
well and also scored three goals, but patrons to the match will
also admit that the attackers were so wasteful as they blew one
chance after another to the dislike of the fans who enjoyed them
selves anyway.
To this worry,
Korak provides what appears to be a palpable answer:
“When we look at
the workload at training and the fact that we are operating
within a tight training and playing schedule, it is just but
fair to say that the players are really doing very well”.
“Per our
programme, we have two training sessions (Morning and evening)
on Monday and Tuesday, play a match on Wednesday and then go
back to out tough training from Thursday and Friday”.
“It is therefore
that the only time when they get to rest is on Saturday’s and
even that hinges on when we do not have an away match to play,
because we normally travel for away matches on Saturdays”.
Despite the
explanation given, he was quick to admit that there was work to
be done upfront.
“I acknowledge
that there is work to be done with the attackers and we will pay
good attention to it at training”.
“We should also
know that it takes a lot of playing time together for attackers
to effective bond and gel to produce the desire results. I
therefore want all to just give us the space to work on the
players and see what will become of the attackers as we progress
from match to match”.
Having scaled
Danbort F.C challenge, Kotoko waits in patience for their next
opponents and this match Korak says would be another exciting
one for reasons he freely shares.
“We have been
improving match after match and our next match will offer an
even interesting football from my team. Our target is to be
fully charged and ready when the league resumes after the CHAN
tournament,” he concluded.
