League leaders Berekum Chelsea can boast of
not ever been defeated at their backyard this season, but the
Porcupine Warriors says they are ready to give them a good run
for the three points when the two sides clash in a top liner
match at the
Golden
City Park
on Sunday.
The game promises to be cagey and
uncompromising looking at the current form and shape of both
teams.
To the supporters of both sides, nothing is
more important than the three maximum points at stake. A win for
Chelsea
would not only stretch their lead at the summit of the log sheet
but would also boost their chances of dethroning Aduana Stars as
league champions.
Nevertheless, if Coach Bodgan Korak and his
boys are able to upstage the home side, they would be the first
team to pull the breaks on
Chelsea
at their backyard in Berekum in the on going premiership and
would also be improving their current position on the league
table
Kotoko go
into this game with two successive victories over Wa All Stars
and Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs. After the spirited show in both
games, Sunday’s game would certainly be another test of
character for the new look Asante Kotoko side.
The Brong Ahafo lads have been a great force
at their home grounds recording seven wins and a draw in eight
matches. This means it will be a tough task for Kotoko to
surmount the Chelsea
hurdle and that will obviously require extra effort from the
players who would have to “kill” themselves a little more,
probably than what they put up in their 2-0 and 1-0 wins over
All Stars and Dwarfs to secure victory.
Coach Korak also needs to device measures to
hold the Chelsea
attack marshaled by Emmanuel Clottey, the 2007 Top Scorer of the
domestic league and scorer of last Wednesday’s winning goal
against Liberty Professionals at the
Carl Reindorf Park
in Accra.
Clottey the Black Stars player who featured
in the last AFCON qualifier and friendly encounter against
Sudan and Saudi Arabia
respectively has had a good partnership with Bismark Idan
upfront.
The duo has scored most of
Chelsea’s goals this season and would
move mountains to add Kotoko to their list of victims if given
the chance. Kotoko therefore have to be cautious and keep the
tabs on the above named players.
It is quite difficult to predict the players
who will make the starting line-up on Sunday going by the few
changes Coach Korak made to his team against Dwarfs in midweek,
but supporters of Asante Kotoko are confident that whoever gets
the nod to don the Kotoko jersey would be up to the task.
The Kotoko
defence has been firm and resolute in the last couple of
matches. There has been effective cooperation among the likes of
Yaw Frimpong, Umar Gariba, Prince Anokye, Awal Mohammed, and
Ohene Brenya at the back.
Michael Akuffo, Mohammed Sabato, Frank
Boateng, Afranie Yeboah, Mohammed Sabato, Nii Adjei, Samed
Oppong among others have also been sensational in midfield
making it difficult of opposing teams to operate freely.
In form
striker, Nathaniel Asamoah has also proven why he is the leading
goal scorer with nine goals whiles goalie Isaac Amoako, has been
at his usual best in the second round. This teamwork and
cohesion among the players must propel Kotoko to higher heights
on Sunday.
Fortunately for Kotoko, they have to their
advantage midfielder Frank Boateng who just returned from a loan
spell at Chelsea.
With an insight into the
Chelsea
set-up, he will surely inspire the team to avenge the 2-3 defeat
suffered in the first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium.
After
helping Kotoko beat Dwarfs in midweek last Wednesday, he says he
was under no pressure ahead of the impeding task.
“Everything
is cool. I am under no pressure. I see the game as one of the
normal games” he stated.
I is soccer bonanza at Berekum and Kotoko
supporters located especially in and around he Ashanti and
Brong Ahafo Regions have no excuse not to throng the stadium in
their numbers to cheer the Porcupines to victory.
