Technical team school players

By David Kyei

06/08/2010

The desire by the Ebo Mends led technical team to leave-no-stone-unturned in their quest to prepare the team adequately for the coming season continues with new and interesting developments.

To ensure that the players did not only have the best physical conditions for the coming season but would also be abreast with the laws of the game, the deputy team manager, Referee (rtd) John Okrah, has been assigned an hour of every Friday afternoon training session to school the players.

As a retired FIFA referee and a referees’ instructor in the Ashanti region, Ref. Okrah took time to take the players through some of the fundamental laws of the game to bring the players understanding of the rules to a higher notch.

To ensure that every member of the new team Kotoko understands the rules so as not to blindly make arguments or challenge officials, all members of the backroom staff and even the Technical manager.

After the extensive lecture, the floor was open for the players to ask questions and it was interesting how very touching and important questions were asked.

With answers provided, the looks on the faces of the team really showed that they were happy with the exercise with some even expressing the eagerness for next week’s session.

Speaking to asantekotokofc.org after the lecture, Technical Manager, Ebo Mends, expressed his satisfaction with the response of the players to the lecture.

“I have come to do a solid project with the team and this is just one of the many programmes we have planned to bring the players up to a good stabdard,” he said.

On his part, Ref (rtd) Okra says he is taking his time to take the team through all these so that “when a player unnecessarily commits an infringement or attracts a card, there will be no excuse for him to escape punishment”.

I like the way kotoko players are being taking through the laws of the game which to me is a surprised, why now?.I will further suggest that the players should also be given English language lessons to help them develop and improve in that direction to erase people perception that we footballers are low-minded and uneducated.
Please i find it difficult to understand why the management has failed to tell the supporters and fans the financial position of the club when they took over from the previous administration? Is Kotoko more than clubs like Man Utd,Chelsea, lyon and others who provide annual vivid account of their clubs to their followers-proving transparency and ethical to them.(to buttress my point i have in my possession accounts of Man Utd,Leicester city,Lyon and even the whole Barclays English premiership transfers figures and accounts of all clubs-as a sport management professional.I hope the management will take what i have suggested in good faith and act accordingly.I am also available to provide innovate and supportive ideas to run kotoko more professionally with my international knowledge and experience from the FIFA Master programme as the first Ghanaian to have study such a course)
I think for once kotoko could set the pace for the other clubs to follow suit let alone convincing supporters and fans to contribute to the club development.

It's good to educate the players on dos and donts of the game in order to avoid unneccessary cards.

Chancellor, Kumasi
I am very glad my dear club is putting all these measures in place to instil discipline in the team. Keep it up and punish any player who gets any unnecessary bookings in games.

I think it's a good idea for our players to be educated because some commits fouls that are not suppose to be forgiving
