The name of Kotoko may have been a
popular name mostly on the African continent in the past, but
after last Tuesday nights crowning as African club of the
century, things have changed.
At the awards, Kotoko was given so
much prominence as an august visitor of the organizers and it
was therefore not a surprise that people trooped from their
table to shake hands and congratulate the Kotoko contingent for
emerging tops on the African category.
Noted for his theatrics and style,
the Special one of world football, Jose Mourinho, could not be
left out as he also took time and space from his bodyguards to
walk to the Kotoko table to congratulate them on their award.
His message to the Kotoko
contingent was short and simple, “congratulations for being the
best in Africa”
Inspired by the show of his style,
the delegation sought his permission for photo session with the
Special one and this he gracefully granted by walking out to
take shots with any Ghanaian who wanted to.
Though was not part of the reasons
for which he agreed go out of the hall, Kotoko Express took
advantage of the rare opportunity to ask a few things of him.
He re-iterated his genuine
laudation for Kotoko and hinted that he had a special affection
for Ghana.
“I have been working with African
players and I know how good they are and so for your club to
emerge as the African best tells me that you have a rich history
surrounding your team. You have done well by coming this far”.
“I will tell you that since I
discovered that Ghanaian players are brilliant players, I have
never looked back in making sure that I always have one in my
team. They are hard workers and have never disappointed me” was
his responds to the question on what he had seen so special
about African and Ghanaian players that he has made sure he has
one or two in his team.
“As a person who always aspires
for honesty, I expect people I also deal with to be same and I
can tell you that the Ghanaian players and even the African
players I have dealt with in my profession have been gentlemen
and honest to me”.
Mourinho once again denied that he
was in talks with a group to assist Ghana at the world cup and
also shared his plans on what role he would or intends to play
at the would cup.
“First, I want to say to you that
I am not going to be working with Ghana at the World Cup. I love
Ghana and her people but has no plans or assignment with them at
the World cup”
“The role I would be playing
during the tournament would be to be a good television audience
because I intend to spend a wonderful vacation with my family
during the period of the world cup”.
Having nurtured Ghanaian Super
star, Michael Essien to his present status, Jose was full of
heartfelt worry about the injury of his boy.
“I feel sorry about Michael
because he is a good player and deserves to be at the world cup.
I pray for him that he recovers fully in time to go and help his
country”. |
