I
miss Michael Essien- Didier Drogba
14-05-2010

Ivorian international footballer,
the iconic Didier Drogba, has told Kotoko Express that he misses
Essien on the field so much that his prayer every day is to see
him come out of injury in record time.
He says he misses his African
compatriot on the field because besides the quality passes that
he distributes for him to score and the ability to be a tower in
their defence, Essien commands a high sense of fighting spirit
and power that when things get tough for them as a team, Essien
is able to bring them up by scoring one of his important goals.
Unlike other stars who normally
shun their admirers, Drogba freely interacted with anyone who
approached him and was mostly seen busting into laughter in his
conversations.
Didier Drogba was at the World
Football Gala as a last minute inclusion to receive a special
award as the world’s top scorer for his exploits at goal scoring
that especially saw him win the English Premier League and the
goal king award as well.
What made Drogba’s award an
interesting one is the fact that he scored his goals from less
matches played as against his competitors.
Despite his goals, he says he
would have scored more goals if his regular supplier, Essien had
been in the thick of things.
“My brother, I words just can’t
describe how much I miss Essien. He is a brother, a friend and
colleague at work”
“His work rate ensures that we get
to score the goals that we have been scoring”.
He talked about how confident he
was about the early return of Essien to the pitch.
“I must say Michael has got a very
strong character. As we speak (9:30pm) I am sure he is in the
gym going through the difficult exercise of getting back to full
recovery and I am sure that with his determination, God will add
up speed and full recovery”.
“The world can’t afford to see
Essien at the world cup especially when it is being played on
our continent. We are all praying to get him back in shape on
time for
Drogba was speaking with the
Kotoko contingent at the awards when they approached him to
enquire how Michael Essien was doing with his road to recovery. |
