Management upbeat about revival

17-04-2010

The chairman of the management team Alhaji Abubakar Salifu Ejee has described the team's revival in performance as borne out of execution of plans to change the fortunes of the tem for the better.

He also says that it was rather unfortunate that the need to take certain decisive actions dawned on them late and therefore could not usher the team into the successful end that members of the Kotoko family had expected of them.

According to the chairman, his team started work with promise but encountered some difficulties from within and out that tended to put spook into the smooth ride that they started.

"We started well but one way or the lost focus and so it took the poor patch that we hit to bring us to the realization that we had to quickly get our acts together before getting our names into the club history books for the wrong reasons".

Though the gentle giant chairman fell short of pinpointing the exact thing that impeded their movement, he s bold enough to admit that their final decision to blend all the ingredients for success did not end well.

"I believe that as management, we took many things for granted that we realized almost late to reverse our mistakes".

"Though mistakes remain to be what they are, our ability to regroup and come up with solutions to the problems should be seen in no other term than our living up to our responsibility".

Among the many decisions they took to reverse the downward trend of the club was the decision to ask head coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin to proceed on leave.

This decision though was welcomed in the Kotoko family, got tongues of some sports observers waging about what the intensions of management were over the issue, but Alhaji Ejee thinks and sees the issue in a different light.

"Our responsibility as management is to steer the affairs of the club to a successful end. This mandate includes taking tough decisions no matter how sweet or bitter it will be".

"Much as the decision to ask Paa Kwesi to proceed on leave is not a sweet one, I entreat all to discuss it in the context of the results thereof"

"By that decision, Kotoko has moved three places up the league log. Even though we are not scoring many goals, it must be emphasized that we have started winning and that is very important. Our target for now is to get into the top four of the league table".

"We went to Tamale to break a 19 year old record/jinx, and the team has started playing better and productively too. All these and many more to come gives me the hope and assurance that we shall do well".

Despite the difficulties on pitch, Alhaji says his administration has a very good off-pitch record in terms of the acquisition of assets for the club.

"Starting from recruitment of players, it is worth noting that we brought in a group of young players who may not be performing as expected, but remains a solid investment because with proper pre-season training and a sound technical direction,     they will be unstoppable in the coming seasons".

"Through our negotiation skill, the club now has in our possession, two new buses to ease our travels around the country. We have also secured an enticing kit sponsorship with +One USA".

"We also are in an advance stage of putting finishing touches to the first phase of the Adarko Jachie project and I am sure that training will begin programs there".

"A look at all these and others yet to begin or completed all examples of what we have done over the period of our stewardship".

"We are not self pontificating, however, we believe that there is too much criticism around that must be stopped," he added.

Alhaji, peace be unto you. I am humbly requesting from you and the management team to be that team which took strong decisions for Kotoko to become the once fearsome team it was sometime ago.
Let us look at Real Madrid of Spain. They are not afraid to buy all the best players in the world but what I believe is that, that team is not interested in results but how much people would pay to come and watch their superstars and also through replica jerseys and other stuff. Kumasi Asante Kotoko follows a similar pattern to this. I'm glad you said the team is a very good one but things didn't work well. If it is that good then please keep them and do not buy any more players except when some players are leaving for jobs outside. Do not succumb to pressure from supporters to go in for big names who do not sometimes help us.
Secondly,it would not be in our interest to go to Africa. There is no money and the team is not doing well so what are we going to do in Africa? Supporters go to the park in their numbers when the team is winning, so now that things are beginning to shape up my humble advice is to stay home and do our home work well. Kotoko has supporters who would rally behind the club if things are done right.
Sell ideas about what to gain from Kotoko to the corporate world and they would invest in this big club. The way we generate resources for the club is not effective to bring in cash for our own stadium and other businesses because it soley depends on supporters, who, when they are not happy due to unimpressive performance do not wish to contribute anything at all.
Many of us would support you if you and your team would take such tough but good decisions. Too much criticism is good for you, Chairman. Fabulous, the Best!!!

The return of J Smith is improving the team's performance. I suggest complementing his effort with the services of either his former Boss Bashiru Hayford or Herbert Addo will further restore the glory of the team. I still think that Bashiru or Herbert has unfinished business with Kotoko and they were removed whilst they were driving the team's success. Kotoko is always a team for the experience and doesn't thrive on experimental basis.
