Kotoko trash Chelsea 2 nil in the outstanding League match

24-02-2010

Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat Bechem Chelsea 2-0 in the mid-week outstanding Glo Premier League match played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Wednesday.

Kotoko scored the opener in the third minute of the game through Edward Affum in a goal mouth melee.

The 'Porcupine Warriors' earlier saw a first goal disallowed just a minute into the game by Referee Vivian Agor.

Baffour Gyan's shot hit the inner part of the cross bar and looked to have clearly crossed the goal line but the referee decided otherwise. Chelsea accepted the challenge and made some daring incursions most of them resulting in corners kicks, but all were wasted. Frank Boateng made it two for Kotoko in the 27th minute in a swift counter attack when he drove through many legs of the Chelsea defence before planting the ball in the blind side of goalkeeper Maxwell Osei Banahene in post for Chelsea.

The visitors nearly pulled back a goal in the 44th minute but Edward Shearer fumbled in front of goal when he was presented with a clear chance. Chelsea came back strongly in the second half wasting another chance in the 46th minute by Issaka Ibrahim.

Kotoko brought on Kwadwo Poku for Baffour Gyan in the 52nd minute for the striker to announce his presence with a perfect pass to Kabiru Imoro but he messed up the opportunity. Kotoko resorted to a defensive play at the latter part of the game to consolidate their sweet victory till the final whistle.

thanks for winning this match and try to recruit new players from the young stars because that is the main reason you established young kotoko.

Is it a matter of reporting only the positives and no negative? What about the loss against Aduana?Report all.

I agree to the point and fact that Kotoko recruits old players.

This is what is killing the team and even the players as well.

Some players come and sit on the bench for a good reasonable time and rot for nothing whilst such players were shinning stars in their previous teams. Look at Samad Oppong and Alex Asamoah for instance who are no more on the scene and are and could be good products for other teams.

Management should think of the opinions posted by readers and well wishers of the team and do something about the issues.

It is true that players of old are not profitable for the team because they boast of old big names not new and modern vim.

Baffour Gyan is old and Kotoko should not have gone in for him at all.

Resort to the use of the new youth in the Anokye side to help the team than to waste money to recruit old players for the club.
