Kotoko players declare 2010 a happy year

23:20 GMT, 4-01-2010

Despite the unimpressive performances they displayed in addition to the pain and disappointment they put their teeming fans through in 2009, Kotoko players have resolved to give their millions of supporters something to cheer about in 2010 by declaring the year as one to make all fans happy.

Interim captain, Soulama Abdoulaye speaking on behalf of his colleagues last Saturday, said they appreciated the need to exhibit good performance in 2010 in every competition they participate. He said as part of their New Year resolutions they have vowed to win their matches to make the fans happy and stressed that they would not compromise on that.

“We cannot do any other thing but to play well and win our matches to make the fans happy. We assure them that we will do our best so they should support us” the team leader demanded.

Kotoko has been in camp through out the festive period and while referring to that, the Burkinabe goalkeeper said it demonstrates the team’s preparedness to be impressive. He said they have been training seriously and that they were expecting good things to happen this year.

He promised that no matter the situation, they would not be discouraged. They would rather work hard to better their performance. “We speak to ourselves all the time. We encourage one another. Our decision is that we do not have to give up. We are confident that Insha Allah we will perform! All we want is to win and make our millions of supporters happy”.

Soulama continued that it was imperative for their teeming supporters to rally behind them, their coaches and management.

“We have always said this, but once again, we ask the fans to come to the stadium” he pleaded.

Asked about team’s participation in the CAF Champions League, the highly experienced goal tender said they would justify the club’s decision to participate and of course the financial investment.

He preferred not to make further comments on the Champions League pointing out that the team has resolved to take one match at a time and that they presently want to focus on the Glo Premier League.

“We will shift attention to the Champions League at the appropriate time” said the goalie. Touching on the premier league, Soulama Abdoulaye recalled the thrilling moments that followed the hardships the team encountered last season, promising that they would repeat that sterling performance to please their supporters.

Besides pleading with his teammates not to worry about anything the 2007/ 2008 Best Goalkeeper called for more management support.

“As players have to do our best; we however expect management to also do their best. We want the best for Kotoko. We have to work hard whether as management or players or technical team” Soulama stated.

WE PROMISE TO RALLY BEHIND THEM BUT ON CONDITION THAT THEY PUT ON THEIR WINING BOOTS. WE WANT TO SEE OUR TEAM TAKING THE SHAPE OF GOOD OLD DAYS WHEN EVERY SHOUT OF GOAL IN MOST KOTOKO MATCHES WAS A KOTOKO GOAL.
