Sunday
was my happiest day – Kabiru
23:00 GMT, 4-01-2010
Sunday, January 3, 2010 was a
joyous day for Kotoko supporters across the globe mainly because
the Porcupines trekked to the Sunyani Coronation Park to beat
Bechem Chelsea 1-0.
For the player who provided the
grounds for all the joy especially in Sunyani and Kumasi, Kabiru
Imoro, Sunday passed as the most exciting day since he joined
the club in September last year.
Kabiru Imoro perfectly completing
a beautiful build-up he initiated with midfielders Daniel Nii
Adjei and Samed Oppong to fetched the vital lone goal in the
29th minute.
He first sent a long pass to Nii
Adjei halfway into Bechem Chelsea’s area, Nii Adjei also pushed
the ball to Samed Oppong around the goal mouth and spotting
Kabiru Imoro deep inside the goal area; Samed gave an excellent
pass which saw the hard working Kabiru shooting powerfully home.
That goal was his fourth in the
season and he could not hide his happiness for giving the
fabulous club a bright start in 2010.
“We went through a lot of pain and
embarrassment last year. Had it not been for the difficulties we
encountered we would have been in the top ranks by now. Today, I
am happy; and indeed it is my happiest day since I joined
Kotoko”.
“I am happy because we won a
difficult away match in spite of all the difficulties we have
faced”
Kabiru commended his colleagues
for the great work in Sunyani and urged that they needed to work
harder to overcome their opponents.
“Chelsea is good side. It is not
easy beating them. What makes today’s victory great is that we
got the same result last season, and we have repeated it this
season”.
He also maintains that the win
would spur them on to another triumph over Wa All Stars in the
midweek clash at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday. He
therefore appealed to fans of the club to be at the stadium to
cheer them to another win.
“We need them there. They should
come in their numbers. We are sure to get another win” he said
with optimism.
On a day that the leadership of
the Brong Ahafo Regional Circles were seen moving all over the
Park, before, during and after the match and in fact joining the
players in the dressing room later to offer a thanksgiving
prayer, Kabiru Imoro could not overlook the enormous backing he
and his colleagues received in Sunyani.
“We have to thank everybody, the
fans, the Circles and all our admirers. We will do our best not
to disappoint them” he ended. |
